Breast Augmentation

Korean Style Short Incision Breast Augmentation

Method 1: Augmentation With Breast Implants

There are two types of breast implants – silicone breast implant and saline-filled breast implants. Saline breast implants are filled with sterile saltwater. Silicone-gel breast implants are entirely made of silicone.

These implants are inserted over the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles or under the pectoralis major and above the pectoralis minor chest muscles (pectoral muscle). This happens through incisions of the armpits, areola (nipples region) or along the crease of the breasts.

One of the most successful brands of breast implants is MOTIVA Implants. They are safe, whilst providing a very natural look and feel. And they also happen to be available at Shens Clinic today.

Both saline breast implant and silicone-filled implants come in various sizes and two shapes – mainly round and teardrop. Thus, it is important to have a discussion with your aesthetic plastic surgeon to get the best implants for the desired breast shape and look.

Method 2: Lipo-filling Using Own Fats - Fat Transfer To Breast

During the Lipo-filling procedure, the breast surgeon harvests fat tissue from parts of the body, thighs or abdomen. These fats will be used to enlarge the chest wall, helping the natural breast tissue get a fuller and totally natural feeling. Lipo-filling is a natural and safe procedure. Using fat tissues from patients’ own body ensures no allergy risks.

The procedure is done using a closed system of transfer known as puregraft. As autologous fat transfer requires liposuction and preparation of the fat for transfer, the procedure can take about 4 hours to complete the breast enlargement surgery.

Concerns About Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast Feeding and Breast Augmentation

Breastfeeding would not be a problem for women with breast augmentation, depending on the implant size and its placement on the chest wall, as well as the type of breast surgery. Higher silicone levels in breast milk have not been detected. The nipple incision method may cause damage to the mammary gland, ducts and nerves.

Injury to the nerves around the nipple can reduce the let-down response when milk from the glands is released during nursing. Women with implants who go down this route usually choose not to breastfeed.

You should also know that damaged milk ducts may reduce your milk production. Ducts may also be blocked, reducing the flow of milk and causing the breasts to swell. There are a few methods to insert the implant without damaging your milk glands. Contact our breast surgeon to find out more. Click here to learn more.

Painful Augmentation with Implants

An anaesthetist does the procedure in our day surgery facility under sedation and local anaesthesia. Our aesthetic plastic surgeon will then perform the incision in this period. During the process, patients will experience no pain as they will be sleeping.

Medical Complication of Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants

The most likely medical complications include a thick scar, breast implant illness, noticeable creases in the implant, breast pain, and breast implant rupture. Silent rupture is also possible. Saline-filled implants are safer with regard to this. Some of these may require additional surgery. It should be noted that textured breast implants are more likely to create problems. That said, if the plastic surgeon is well versed in their craft, the potential risk is minimal.

Candidacy for the Breast Implant Procedure

If you are a candidate for breast enhancement surgery, you will be done some general medical tests to ensure that you are in good health. It is important that you are not a smoker or that you cease smoking several weeks before and after the treatment. Pregnant women are not suitable for the breast augmentation procedure.

Through the armpit incision

This method is very blunt as the incision location is furthest away from the breast. Most aesthetic plastic surgeons will only choose round implants for this procedure. The scar is well hidden through the armpit as well.

Scarring Depending on Breast Augmentation Incision Methods

Scar tissue may look differently depending on the types of incision and surgical incision location.

Incision above the pectoralis major muscle (through nipple – peri-areolar incision)

Tattooing the nipple colour can hide the otherwise visible scar. Although this method is not usually preferable for breast implant surgery as this may damage milk glands, some patients find this type of incision less painful post-op.

Under the pectoral muscle incision (through the breast fold, the most preferred method by most patients)

This method is most preferred with a short incision point from the breast inframammary fold (inframammary incision). The scar will be hidden. The patient can opt to laser and lighten the scar.

Breast Volume with Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants

In most cases, breast augmentation patients are unfamiliar with the more intricate medical terms, so they often ask: “How many cc’s are in a bra cup size”? In general, bra size seems to vary from one manufacturer to another, which makes it difficult to name a specific number here. It has been agreed, though, that one cup size is equal to approximately 130-150 cc. This should give you a clue as to how many cubic centimetres you want.

That being said, you need to have a thorough conversation with your aesthetic plastic surgeon to determine the desired breast size. They will hand you samples of silicone breast implants that differ in texture, shape, and size to help you visualize the results and the look. There is also a special program that can help you get there.

Results – How long before breast implants look normal?

Another thing that patients are keenly interested in is when the results materialize after the breast implants procedure. It has to be said that they progress with time. Your bust will begin to look normal when the swelling is over, and the implants settle, which usually happens around the third month’s mark. Of course, it varies from patient to patient and is strongly individualized. Your aesthetic plastic surgeon will monitor your journey and warn you about any potential side effects.

It is important to mention that the outcome could change as a result of weight gain, ageing, gravity, childbirth, etc. Breast revision surgery is available for women with breast issues of this kind.

What To Expect From The Cosmetic Procedure?

Patients who smoke are most likely advised to refrain from smoking at least six weeks into the procedure. We will also instruct the patients to refrain from taking any blood-thinning medication, multi-vitamins and supplements at least two weeks prior to the procedure to minimize the risk of bleeding profusely.

Wear comfortable clothing and please arrange for someone to fetch you. The procedure will take about an hour to complete.

Once the cosmetic surgery is done, patients will be required to rest for a few hours. A board-certified plastic surgeon or other medical staff will give specific instructions and guidelines. It is important to abide all of the instructions and guidelines to prevent medical complications and to ensure a smooth recovery.

Is it normal for incisions to hurt after breast augmentation? It is normal to have pain in the treatment area after your procedure. As the anaesthesia starts to wear off, there would be some tightness feeling of discomfort, but medications will be provided. Medical staff will guide arm exercises to relax the chest muscle during the recovery period. Most women could relate this to feeling engorgement of the breasts.

Why Choose Shens Clinic?

At Shens Clinic, Short Incision Breast Augmentation (SIBA) is a signature procedure that can be safely carried out using breast implants or grafting of fat cells. In comparison to other plastic surgery clinics in Singapore, where breast augmentation is available, the surgical procedure for breast implants can be completed in 30 minutes through a short incision of 2.5cm.

Dr Shenthilkumar Naidu (Dr Shens) is our dexterous aesthetic plastic surgeon, a member of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons. Thenceforth, minimal scarring can be achieved with post-surgery laser treatment provided at Shens Clinic.

With the aid of Motiva, augmentation with breast implants enables individuals to attain a natural look and feel minus the common complication risks of breast implants.

The breast will appear high on the chest with tightness for the next few weeks. It will lower down after the first week and more as time goes by. Relaxation of the chest muscle will vary for individuals. Bruising will occur on the third day after the plastic surgery is done. During this period, our surgeon will have patients come back to review the healing process.

Note: Shens Clinic does not use breast fillers. They are currently not allowed by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
